Motorbike Riders in Sierra Leone: Menace to Society or Social Indicator?
I have to say that your article really bites to the core Sughey.
Having lived there both before and after the war I can decipher between good journalism and utter rubbish and yours is right at the top with the good ones.
Many people living there walk around with blinkers and are unaware of the real feeling from the grassroot level.
I like yourself, believe the causes of the initial outbreak of war still exist and are more prevalent now than ever.
The vast majority of the locals live in a poorer environment than ever before especially the youth who have no future as their hopes and dreams were all but snuffed out by the debacle that was caused by the war.
I remember asking a pastor what he thought could be done to get rid of the cancer that was corruption which had permeated through every facet of society.
He simply looked to the skies and replied "divine intervention my friend, divine intervention".
