Important and interesting article, which is informative and sympathetic, on the whole. However, I must take issue with the gendering of MTFs as 'men' in the following sentences from the article:
"A group of transsexuals signed a petition to the Kuwaiti Parliament seeking public recognition and cancellation of the law after 12 of them were maltreated in detention. Arrested for wearing female clothes, the men were physically and psychologically abused by guards who shaved their long hair."

Male to female transsexuals are not 'men', they are women ...which is exactly why it was wrong for the prison guards to treat them like men and shave their long hair. Really, the author should have been more careful and not made this basic mistake.
