Is it also true that the seeds being donated by Monsanto are not truly "free" to farmers, as the Haitians will have to purchase them to avoid an economically disruptive influx of free goods? This is a challenging issue, as it seems a positive thing for the Haiti restoration efforts to be supported in this way. However, if hybrid seeds need to be purchased year after year in order for agricultural health to be maintained, this "act of charity" is not productive.
I agree that more free speech should be taking place on the part of local fisherman, BP employees and volunteers. It is almost ironic that giving back to Mother Earth is so advantageous to us as individuals. These allotments provide healthy and home-grown food products, exercise and outdoor activity, and a collaborative community - all for a pretty good price. Now where can I garden in Downtown LA?
