Post Script.) And yes, I've seen plenty examples of the main stream media and every day, regular people on entertainment blogs, poking fun at and ridiculing famous males based upon their looks. I've seen chubby or wrinkled male celebrities, such as Val Kilmer and Mick Jagger, picked on.
When male actor Gerard Butler (of the film "300") gained a lot of weight recently and photos of him looking tubby appeared in the tabloids, he was ridiculed quite a bit on the blogs for it.
Maybe there used to be a double standard in the entertainment industry, but these days, males get laughed at and mocked if they look old, flabby, and out of shape, too. Men are not immune from criticism in this area.
This editorial states that Madonna's age is 61 (sixty one), when in fact, at the time of this writing, Madonna is currently age 51.
I think aspects of this editorial are naive. Liberal women pretend to be feminists, yet they will insult and mock conservative females. There is no sisterhood, so making appeals to the "all women must stick together" sentiment rings rather hollow.
Considering that Madonna has been rude to other females over her life time, from her childhood on into her adulthood (many examples could be cited, here's but one: Madonna 'trash talked' female politician Sarah Palin on a recent tour, stating she wanted to 'kick Palin's butt' or something to that effect), why should all women automatically come to Madonna's defense?
Madonna willingly chose to enter a profession (pop singer) in which youth is highly prized.
Nobody forced Madonna to enter this type of career. Madonna could have chosen to become a school teacher, librarian, house wife, plumber, dog walker, or any number of other occupations that did not place such a huge emphasis upon physical appearance. As such, she is not completely undeserving of barbs about looking older, looking too thin, or unattractive.
Maybe the younger women would not laugh at and ridicule Madonna if Madonna behaved and dressed like a 51 year old; instead, Madonna tries to remain relevant by continuing to dress, behave, and pose for many photo spreads (when promoting new albums) as though she is still 25 years old.
That Madonna is now using her teen daughter Lourdes to make in-roads with today's teens smacks even more of desperation.
