Book Review: Why are LGBT People Still Seen as Criminals?
The word "criminalization" implies that it used to not be a crime to be LGBT in the Americas. I'm interested in learning more about how LGBT folks were treated before the 16th century - I've heard that some Native American cultures have traditionally been flexible with gender roles. Are there any cultures of European descent that are LGBT-friendly?
Despite Profits, Beer Companies Do Not Provide Living Wage For Cambodian Promoters
Why do corporations continue to mistreat their workers? Even if they don't care about responsibility to fellow humans, they should at least improve working conditions for the great PR it generates.
Facebook Game ‘Angry Brides’ Trivializes Grave Human Rights Violation
Considering I didn't even know that dowry practices existed in India before I read this article, I think the game could have its uses in terms of raising awareness. Perhaps a curious game player would go on to research the topic and then find information about your 50 Million Missing Campaign.
With No Money, Kenyan Farmers Find Way to Feed Hungry
So glad that the food isn't going to waste! I read a book called Late Victorian Holocausts and it described a similar situation. There was a famine in turn-of-the-century India that was due primarily to lack of transportation for crops within India, not due to lack of crops.
In an ideal world, the government is run by representatives of the people in the best interests of the people. If the majority of citizens in Baja California believe that life begins at birth and have no problem with this legislation, then so be it.
Of course, we do not live in an ideal world. And asserting by law that life begins at birth in one state will result in women sneaking over borders to get abortions in another state, or worse, in illegal abortions (clothes hanger, anyone?). I do not believe in abortion, but I support the right to it because it is overall healthier for women to have legal methods to abort. Women have been aborting babies since the dawn of time (for example, a natural abortifacient is pomegranate) and they will find a way to do so if they want it done. Have we learned nothing from the Prohibition era? Just legalize it so that the black market doesn't make a (perhaps literal) killing off it.
What a great project. I admire Brandi for her courage and honesty.

How about these women get their implants removed and have PIP foot the bill and any related hospital bills? Seems fair to me.

It is encouraging to see that there are organizations in Mongolia that are helping to prevent alcoholism and domestic abuse.

Wow, I've never heard of this disease! It sounds horrible. Are there any preventative measures that we can take?

I admire Eunice Tenges' strength. It is hard to be alienated for your beliefs!
